Frosting Selection Guide

Find the Right Frosting for Your Setup

How To CHoose

Choosing the right Frosting is simple. Below is a breakdown of what to consider based on your platform, conditions, and how you shoot. The system is flexible, so while there are no wrong choices, there are performance tradeoffs. The recommendations below are starting points, not strict rules.

Extreme Cold Exception: In extreme cold, stick with Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin). Thicker options can negatively impact reliable cycling.

QUICK DECISION GUIDE

• If it’s hot or you’re shooting a lot → Blueberry Barrier (Thick)
• If temps are moderate → Key Lime Glide (Balanced)
• If it’s cold or tolerances are tight → Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)

FROSTING OVERVIEW

Blueberry Barrier (Thick)
• Best for long guns, suppressed fire, high round count sessions, and hot environments
• Delivers maximum staying power when heat and friction are high

Key Lime Glide (Balanced)
• Best for pistols, general-purpose use, and moderate temperatures
• A reliable all-around option for most setups

Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)
• Best for 1911s, competition guns, tight tolerance actions, and cold weather
• Flows easily and keeps parts moving freely when precision and speed matter

FOR NEW SHOOTERS

If you’re just getting started and not sure what to choose, start with Key Lime Glide (Balanced). It puts you in the middle of the viscosity system, giving you a baseline, and works well across most pistols, rifles, and moderate temperatures. From there, adjust based on your conditions:

Move thicker (Blueberry Barrier) for high round counts and hotter conditions
Move thinner (Dragon Fruit Drip) for cold weather or tight-tolerance parts (triggers, pins, etc.)

LONG GUNS (Rifles, Shotguns, etc)

Suppressed/high volume shooting and/or extreme heat
• Use Blueberry Barrier (Thick)
• Built to stay in place under sustained fire and elevated temperatures

Casual shooting / moderate temperatures
• Use Key Lime Glide (Balanced)
• Reliable performance across a wide range of environments

Extreme cold or sluggish cycling issues
• Use Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)
• Flows easily and clings in low temperatures to keep the action moving freely and prevent sluggish cycling

PISTOLS

Casual shooting / moderate temperatures
• Use Key Lime Glide (Balanced)
• Ideal for reliable, everyday performance across varying conditions

Cold weather or tighter-fitting pistols
• Use Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)
• Reduces resistance and keeps actions running freely in the cold

Heavy use / hotter conditions
• Use Blueberry Barrier (Thick)
• Provides added staying power during extended sessions

1911s AND COMPETITION GUNS

Tight fit, performance-tuned guns
• Start with Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)
• Minimizes drag and supports fast, consistent cycling

If you want more cushion under recoil or for higher round count shooting
• Move up to Key Lime Glide (Balanced)
• Adds more film strength without noticeably slowing the action

TIGHT TOLERANCES

Default recommendation
• Use Dragon Fruit Drip (Thin)
• Minimizes drag and supports smooth, consistent cycling
• Ideal for light-contact points like triggers, receiver pins, safeties, and other precision components
• Keeps small moving parts like triggers and pins responsive in low temperatures
